Flag 01 / 04
Union Jack
Also known as: The Union Flag
The national flag of the United Kingdom, combining the crosses of St George (England), St Andrew (Scotland) and St Patrick (Ireland). The design as it stands dates from 1801 following the Acts of Union with Ireland. Wales is not directly represented in the flag — the Welsh dragon predates the heraldic conventions from which the Union Flag was derived.

| Cross width | 1/5 of flag height (with 2/15 white fimbriation each side) |
| Diagonal width | 1/3 of flag height (white) · 1/5 of flag height (red, counterchanged) |
The counterchange diagonals are frequently rendered incorrectly. The broader white diagonal must sit uppermost at the hoist. The red saltire of St Patrick is offset — not centred — within the white diagonal bands. This SVG renders the counterchange correctly.
